The Banff Centre is the largest arts incubator on the planet. They inspire creativity from business and communities from their breathtaking campus nestled in the Rocky Mountains. Their previous website had a highly misunderstood content structure, the design did not reflect the elegance of the brand, and lacked the ability for multiple audiences to find what they needed quickly; mobile or otherwise.

Working with the Banff Centre was an illuminating experience for us. We relished the opportunity to dive into the vast array of initiatives and content the Centre provides to the arts community. CHALLENGE

The primary challenge was reconciling the variety of opportunities that the Banff Centre provides and effectively reaching their diverse target audiences. Offering artist residencies, leadership development, indigenous and environmental studies, conferences, festivals and year-round events as well as hospitality and recreation, the Banff Centre is many things to many people. We chose to embrace this complexity, and the interdisciplinary nature of the Banff Centre became one of the core principles of the redesign.

APPROACH

Through a series of intensive interviews, workshops and collaborative design sessions, we brought together the diverse requirements of over 30 stakeholder groups and integrated those findings into the final design.

Our responsive solution allows all users to find the information they need quickly – on any device – while experiencing the multifaceted nature of the Centre through beautiful imagery and related content. We created a unified experience for all offerings by removing departmental silos and duplicated information. We also developed a living style guide for the site so that the web team can maintain and build on the design.
